The purpose of the Levon Shant Awards is to enhance the development of contemporary Armenian theater, discover new creative talents and contemporary directions, ensure the continuity of the best practices in Armenian theater, and support the production of new plays.
The themes are national and universal values, self and identity search, the hero of our times.
The prizes are:
•First-place winner: 1,000,000 Armenian Drams
•Second-place winner: 800,000 Armenian Drams
•Third-place winner: 600,000 Armenian Drams
There will also be two honorable mention awards worth 200,000 Armenian Drams each.
Conditions:
Playwrights from Armenia and the Diaspora can take part in the contest.
Plays in any genre (in Eastern or Western Armenian) that have not been printed, staged, or published yet can be considered.
The works must be submitted in both electronic format and hard copy (either in person or by mail.)
The minimum length is 25 pages, while the maximum is 50 pages (in Unicode, MS word, RAR, PDF or ZIP files, where one page is equivalent to 1,800 characters).

Applicants from the Diaspora can send their work to the office of the Central Committee of Hamazkayin: P.O.Box 70-1028, M. & H. Arslanian College, Antelias, Lebanon, and email it to: central@hamazkayin.com.
A cover email must accompany the submission including the following information: full name of the playwright, father’s name, play title, the playwright’s place of residence, postal address, email address, telephone number, curriculum vitae, and a photograph.
The best works will be selected by a jury of seven members, who will not have the right to take part in the contest themselves.
The plays will be coded and placed in closed envelopes before being presented to the jury for evaluation.
All the rights for future usage (publication, production, etc.) of the winning plays belong to the Hamazkayin Armenian Cultural and Educational Association.
The deadline for submission of works is April 15, 2013.
The results will be announced on June 15, 2013.
All the submitted works will be published in an anthology, while the winning play will be produced and staged with the support of the Hamazkayin Armenian Educational and Cultural Association.
