The presentation of the book Sacred Justice, organized by the Sanahin Chapter of Hamazkayin Greater Montreal, took place on Thursday, March 15, 2018. The author of the book Marian Mesrobian MacCurdy had been invited from the US city of Amherst to present this unique work, which had raised great interest among the book lovers of the community. Many new young people had attended the presentation.
Marian Mesrobian MacCurdy told the guests how she had discovered the letters of the key members of the Nemesis operation sent to her grandfather Aaron Sachaklian. She also told that her mother and Aaron Sachaklian’s daughter had carefully kept and archived those letters, and as she had considered her duty to continue her mother’s work, she had undertaken the publication of the book.
The letters occupy only one part of the book. Besides the letters, the author deemed it necessary to present her memoirs about both the maternal and paternal sides of her family, why they had chosen different ways to combat the Turkish yoke. One of them just survived, while the other, despite the harsh conditions, resisted.
Marian Mesrobian MacCurdy's cousin, Arsine Oshagan had accompanied her in preparing the book for publication. Arsine Oshagan told how emotional she had been when translating those letters from Armenian into English, and that the work had greatly impressed her psychologically because it had coincided with losses of several members of her family, including her husband Vahe Oshagan.
At the end of the event, Marian Mesrobian MacCurdy responded to the questions of the audience and then signed the books.
On the next day of the presentation, the author visited the graduating students of the St. Hagop National School. Speaking about her Montreal visit, she said that the Armenian Community of Montreal is enviable and is one of the most active and intelligent communities.
