On 10 December 2014, the Intellectuals’ Club of Hamazkayin Armenia held its year-ending meeting.
The students, representing Yerevan Brusov State University of Languages and Social Studies, Yerevan State University and Armenian State Pedagogical University after Khachatur Abovian, gathered in Hamazkayin Armenia Office to meet the poet and translator Edward Harents and the founder of "Granish" Literary Club, poet Karen Antashian.
The scope of the issues and the discussion developed under the headline "Contemporary Armenian poetry, translation language, problems and developments". Chairperson of the Armenian Educational and Cultural Foundation Lilit Galstyan welcomed the guests and introduced Edward Harents and Karen Antashian to the students. She expressed hope that the meeting will be the best opportunity for the students to understand the poetry, to reach mutual understanding through direct contact between author and reader and to listen to the poetry from writer's lips.
The young poets presented the contemporary Armenian poetry, spoke about translations and their approaches and assessments. Karen Antashian, referring to the day's headline, said that the translation, equally with modern literature, is an important tool keeping the language alive and developing and reviving it. Edward Harents spoke about the translator’s aspiration for presenting the best literary work in the best translation as well as the challenges existing along that way. He also shared his experience with the students. Then, the poets read some extracts from their works, which was followed by interesting discussions.
The gathering became exceptional for another very important reason. Five students achieved high progress in their studies and having creative literary talents, representing the Departments of Philology and Journalism of Yerevan State University and Armenian State Pedagogical University, were granted the traditional "Hagop Garabents" Scholarship. Lilit Galstyan, addressing her speech to the scholarship-awarded-students and other participants said, "We are glad to state that most of the "H.Garabents" Scholarship winners of all thirteen years of its history are currently specialists in the sphere of literature, literary studies and journalism having their own signatures."
The Hamazkayin’s Intellectual Club’s gathering ended granting a new opportunity to the young members of the Club to read, recognize and love the Armenian Contemporary literature.
