
An event dedicated to the publication of the anthology of lectures read during the international symposium dedicated to the 2100th anniversary of the coronation of Tigran the Great took place May 27 at the assembly hall of the RA National Academy of Sciences. The event was organized by Hamazkayin Armenian Educational and Cultural Association.
The international symposium dedicated to the anniversary of Tigran the Great’s coronation took place 2-3 November, 2005, as a joint initiative between the RA National Academy of Sciences, Hamazkayin Armenian Educational and Cultural Association, and “St. Mesrob Mashdots Dpratoon” Educational Center of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
The anthology was published with the sponsorship of American-Armenian Yervant Mserlian. The anthology featured about 40 unpublished lectures and monographic works. They are dedicated to the life of the “King of kings” Tigran the Great, who succeeded in making the Kingdom of Mets Hayk reach international heights. The published works discuss his state, political, military, diplomatic, civilization, and cultural activity.
Hasmik Poghosyan, the RA Minister of Culture, Radik Martirosyan, the President of the Academy of Science and Arts, Vahan Hovhannisyan, the leader of the ARF in the RA National Assembly, Lilit Galstyan, RA Member of the Parliament, authors of lectures and monographic works published in the anthology, as well as scientists and political actors.
Radik Martirosyan, the RA President of National Academy of Sciences, underlined the exceptional role played by Tigran the Great in establishing and developing Armenian statehood, and hence the importance of publishing this anthology. RA Minister of Culture Hasmik Poghosyan congratulated all the authors of the anthology, highly praising the mission of making this unique publication accessible to the wide public. Hasmik Poghosyan also expressed her own willingness, as well as that of the department under her leadership to support the publication of this anthology in foreign languages.
Lilit Galstyan, RA MP and the President of the Hamazkayin Armenian Educational and Cultural Association said that it is very important to evaluate the political, diplomatic, martial, social, and cultural layers of Tigran the Great, the world conqueror, especially within the context of the new Armenian statehood. She stated that the legacy left by Tigran the Great is an important direction to learn lessons from our history and to direct the future.
The event elicited an active discussion of the anthology’s topics.
Vladimir Barkhoudaryan, the Secretary of the RA National Academy of Sciences, Edik Minasyan, the dean of the Faculty of Yerevan State University, Faculty of History, archeologist Haik Hakobyan, Vahan Hovhannisyan, the leader of the ARF group in the RA National Assembly, and Edik Danielyan, the editor of the anthology.
