“The book: our friend, the story: our imagination.” This is the motto of Hamazkayin’s Montreal Chapter’s “Children’s Story Hour” project, which takes place on the third Saturday of each month.
On Saturday, 19 March 2016, Hamazkayin Sanahin Art Center hosted a group of parents and more than 17 children who came to listen to Terenig Temirdjian’s story “Bouy-Bouy Mgnige” (Bouy-Bouy the little mouse) and to participate in the Children’s Story Hour through games and songs. The storyteller was Palig Balian, one of the active young members of Hamazkayin Montreal’s Sanahin Chapter. She presented the story in an engaging way, by alternating storytelling, singing, inviting the children to participate, playing guitar, and through questions and answers. At the end of the story, the children enjoyed watching a movie based on the book, and went on to doing crafts. Later, they enjoyed delicious cake and juice, and advised the little mouse to be content with what he has, not to eat too much, and to exercise often, in order to stay healthy.
By taking part in Hamazkayin’s Children’s Story Hour, children are able to hear fluent Armenian, learn new vocabulary, and have fun in a special context.
The next Children’s Story Hour will take place on 16 April 2016, from 3 to 4:30pm, in Hamazkayin Sanahin Art Center. The storyteller will be Meghry Bakarian.
