The New Year had come, presents had been opened, and feasts had been finished, and meanwhile we Toronto Armenians were impatiently awaiting the gift promised by the Hamazkayin Toronto Chapter’s Booklovers Group. We were sure the gift would leave us with unforgettable moments.
Gaghandchek (“New Year’s gift”) took place on January 29, 2023, at the Hamazkayin Haroutiun Manougian Library, where a large number of book lovers had gathered to once again refresh their precious memories of the New Year.
In the library’s left corner, red and green Armenian ornaments were braided and blanketing a table, covered with fresh and dried fruits, candies, and Armenian jewelry. These offerings transported the audience to Armenia, where the booklovers longed to be. The literary event had begun.
The group took place in this decorated area, glowing with book lovers.
