A large number of Nicosia Armenians on February 28, 2025, enjoyed an exceptional evening dedicated to Armenian music. The event was organized by the Prelacy and the Hamazkayin Nicosia Hagop Oshagan Chapter. Catholicosal vicar Archbishop Gomidas Ohanian was present, as was the representative of the Armenian community in the Cyprus House of Representatives, Vartkes Mahdessian.
Under the arches of the Holy Mother of God Church that evening, the “Lalla” vocal quartet, visiting from Armenia, performed its set list ranging from spiritual melodies to Gomidas, moving their audience and giving them both joy and national pride.
The young and talented singers, Diana Ayvazyan, Anna Khachatryan, Marianna Gevorgyan, and Mariam Hovhannisyan, interpreted all the songs with skill and deep feeling, accompanied on the organ by Ms. Zara Barkhurdaryan.
Archbishop Gomidas blessed the talented singers and called them deaconesses at the altar of Lusine Zakaryan (1937–1992), the storied soprano. On behalf of the audience, he thanked the singers and urged them to continue their work with greater zeal, since “Armenian spiritual music stands out in world spiritual music and is the most marvelous.”
Ms. Ayvazyan said words of thanks on behalf of the quartet and gave a memorial gift to Hamazkayin Cyprus Executive Board chairperson Arto Tavitian.
This memorable evening once again affirmed the strength and core role of Armenian music in the maintenance of our cultural heritage and in inspiring future generations.
