Pakine’s Literary Heritage is Digitized and Accessible Online
The literary journal Pakine, organ of Hamazkayin Armenian Educational and Cultural Society, now 60 years old, has digitized its entire archive.
This archive of more than 40,000 pages is available at pakine.net a site that is fully searchable.
Until 2021, every new edition of Pakine was made available as a pdf file on the Hamazkayin Central Executive Board’s website, hamazkayin.com at the same time it was published in print. While pdf files are true to the original, it is hard to do research going page by page.
At the initiative of the editors, and through two years of staff efforts, Pakine has been able to convert its entire run into digital files and to generate indices by title, author, genre, and keywords. Attention was given to the aesthetic qualities of the site as well. It includes fresh content, including historical and archival photographs, with captions, and audiovisual materials.
These results could not have been achieved without the support of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Armenian Communities Department, which believed in the importance of this work and made a special allocation to support the creation of the site.
On its sixtieth anniversary, Pakine has launched first Pakine Books and now this site that gives new breath to the journal’s literary legacy.
