The Hamazkayin San Francisco Nigol Aghpalian Chapter on Sunday, October 27, 2024, held its annual cultural event at the Khachaturian Armenian Center Saroyan Concert Hall. As always, a large number of culture lovers had been eagerly awaiting the event.
After the national anthems of the United States and Armenia were performed, Desil Der Abrahamian welcomed the audience on behalf of the chapter executive board. Board chairperson Lena Manoukian read excerpts from the biography of Harutiun Ishak, a late member of the chapter, and focused on his tireless work, including acting in plays.
One corner of the hall was decorated with paintings donated by a friend of Hamazkayin and 3 beautiful wooden sculptures by the well-known sculptor Varuzhan Martiryan.
Mr. Martiryan had established himself in San Francisco. After his death, his wife and daughters donated the house he had built by hand in Ainjar, Lebanon, to the town of Ainjar as a museum. The museum, filled with his sculptures, was dedicated in September 2024, on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the town.
