Celebrations of the ninety-fifth anniversary of Hamazkayin Armenian Educational and Cultural Association began on March 17, 2023, in Beirut. At an anniversary celebration held under the aegis of the Central Executive Board and organized by the Regional Executive Board for Lebanon, paragons of Armenian education and culture were honored.
The Central Executive Board awarded the Hamazkayin Medal to Santukhd Bertizlian (Shahantukhd) for her contributions to Lebanese Armenian public life, literature, and journalism; Garo Hovhannesian, for his contributions to Armenian public life, education, culture, and literature; Armen Djenderedjian, for contributions to culture and especially musical performance, dissemination, and teaching in Armenia and the diaspora; and Dr. Edward Toriguian for contributions to Armenian music performance, familiarization, and dissemination.
Members of the Central Executive Board, accompanied by the representative of the Regional Executive Board for Lebanon, visited Shahantukhd’s residence on March 17 and presented her with the award. Shahantukhd expressed her joy and gratitude to Hamazkayin and confidence that the new generation would continue her work.
