Saturday 20 May 2017 was a festive day for Hamazkayin Marseille Djemaran. 38 participants of the workshop, among which the Armenian teachers of Djemaran, Hamazkayin Marseille current Executive Board members, former Board members, parents, Hamazkayin Central Executive Board representatives, and speakers invited by the Hamazkayin Central Executive Board arrived in time to take part in the Workshop entitled Marseille Hamazkayin bilingual Djemaran's role in the future evolution of the Armenian Community of France, which took place in the spacious hall of Djemaran (the workshop’s topics were a/Issues of Armenian Upbringing and b/ The Hamazkayin. Attached is the complete program of the Seminar).
All independent reporters had the opportunity to express their concerns and opinions. During the entire seminar, the speakers accorded special priority to the teaching of the Armenian language, since the Marseille institution is officially bilingual. That is, each student and parent are obliged to give the same importance to both, the Armenian and French languages. It was also stated that since the Armenian language has stopped being the mother tongue for some of the students the school successfully teaches more than one language.
The participants also expressed their satisfaction with the details of activities of the Hamazkayin Central Executive Board and its worldwide chapters.
The speakers appreciated the school’s achievements. They also emphasized the fields where it still needs improvements. It is encouraging that the school enjoys fame, but it faces dreadful situations at the beginning of each academic year because of the great number of applicants. In that situation, the school administration has to either ignore some pedagogical principles enrolling the students, or adhere to the same principles and reject the applications of Armenian students. The Workshop participants became convinced that the situation should be promtly improved. The overall conclusion was that the situation is of course satisfying, but there are still many things to do. In that context, a great role was assigned to school graduates, who can take responsibility and contribute to changes.
