
At the initiative of the Hamazkayin Yerevan Office and with the cooperation of Yerevan State University, the Institute of Literature of Armenia’s National Academy of Sciences, and Armenia’s State Pedagogical University, the 150th anniversary of Nigol Aghpalian was celebrated on March 28, 2025, at Yerevan State University.
The dean of the Armenian Philology Department at YSU, Professor Arshaluys M. Galstyan, opened the event. The purpose of the event, he said, was to understand the great intellectual being honored.
Ruzan Arakelyan, head of the Hamazkayin Yerevan Office, said the event sought to bring Aghpalian to the attention of the younger generation as an engaged intellectual, educator, and political leader. She talked about educational projects and reforms that took place on his watch.
Hamazkayin Central Executive Board member Artashes Shahbazyan also spoke.
The main speakers were Professor Davit Gasparyan, doctor of philological sciences; Professor Zhenia Kalantaryan, doctor of philological sciences; Professor Ashkhan Jrbashyan, Ph.D. in philology; Professor Knarik Abrahamyan, Ph.D. in philology; and Institute of Literature scholars Armen Manukyan, Ph.D. in philology and Lusine Avetisyan, Ph.D. in philology.
Gegham Manukyan, member of the National Assembly, spoke about the character and activities of Aghpalian.
Vardan Petrosyan, Ph.D. in philology, gave his impressions of Aghpalian.
The program concluded with a discussion of Aghpalian’s character in a round-table format.
