On March 22, 2024, the centennial of the birth of the poet Paruyr Sevak was celebrated at the Der Melkonian Hall in Beirut. The Hamazkayin Literary Branch launched a collection “100 Poems,” published by the Hamazkayin Vahe Setian Press.
The program began with the anthems of Lebanon, Armenia, and Artsakh. Nanor Tashjian made opening remarks. She said the program celebrates the great contributions of a talented and much-loved poet from Armenia.
“The eternal unknown of his literature was the human being and Sevak tried to delve into our spiritual existence. His heroes were virtuous and conventional people who inspired, saddened, and amazed us. He wrote openly about things that were said quietly and implied between the lines in those days,” Ms. Tashjian said.
“Paruyr Sevak’s work has a charismatic draw and a literary individuality. He reflected on the fate of the Armenian people, the Armenian Genocide, the national rebirth, and the theme of gathering all Armenians around the homeland. His work is rich with profound hope, love, human need, national spirit, and faith,” she continued.
Sevak was fortified and exclusively appreciated by Armenians, she said.
A biographical video prepared by the Paruyr Sevak House-Museum in Armenia was then shown.
