On May 31, 2024, the artist and educator Vartan Tashjian was honored with the Hamazkayin Medal at a ceremony organized by the Hamazkayin Cyprus Executive Board at the Vahram Utidjian Hall. Hamazkayin Central Executive Board member Sebouh Aintablian gave the medal.
Rev. Momig Habeshian, spiritual leader of Nicosia Armenians, chairs and representatives of the prelacy and community organizations, and many community members were present.
Hamazkayin Cyprus chair Arto Tavitian delivered opening remarks after which Yeghia Kayayian discussed Mr. Tashjian’s life and legacy. He emphasized Mr. Tashjian’s achievements as an educator and his paintings.
Mr. Aintablian presented the medal, after which Mr. Tashjian spoke from the heart.
Two video clips were displayed during the ceremony. The first was a collection of images from Mr. Tashjian’s life. The second was a professionally produced film about Mr. Tashjian’s artwork.
At the end of the program the priest offered a closing prayer and there was a reception. The full program was carried live by Gibrahayer EMagazine.
