The presentation of Haykazun Yapoujian’s newly republished book took place on Thursday, March 17, 2016, at "Aharonian" Hall of the Armenian Center in Montreal. The organizer of the event was the Hamazkayin Literary Committee of "Sanahin" Chapter.
Literary Committee Member Anahit Balian delivered her welcome speech saying that the "Sanahin" Chapter and Literary Committee, staying faithful to the mission of Hamazkayin, have always encouraged such initiatives.
Meghri Pagarian that has recently relocated to Canada from Syria presented Haykazun Yapoujian’s brief biography. She told that Haykazun Yapoujian was originally from Rumtikin. He belonged to the Genocide survivor generation, lived a prolific cultural life in Lebanon and died in 1986.
Sona Titizian Ketikian made literary analysis on the book, referring to its two chapters – the life in orphanage and life after orphanage. Titizian also quoted the most interesting parts of the book. She highly appreciated the republication of the book on the Centennial of the Genocide and said that the book is very important for future generations because it tells about not only Haykazun Yapoujian’s personal life, but also presents the history of our nation, its most dreadful days and its survival.
Three grandchildren of the author, Hrayr, Raffi and Varant Yapoujians and their children Sevan and Armen were present at the event to tell about their grandfather and to express their cordial gratitude.
Anahit Balian invited Varant and Hrayr Yapoujians to present the recollections they have of their grandfather.
Toward the end, some of the guests spoke about the author, after which Hrayr and Varant Yapoujians left autographs on the books, which were presented to the participants of the event.
The Hamazkayin "Sanahin" Chapter’s Executive Board expresses its deepest gratitude to the Yapoujians family and to all those who attended the event and encouraged it with material or moral support.
