The organizers of the conference, “Cities on the Edge: Exploring Late Antique Urbanism in the Southern Caucasus (AD 300–600),” have canceled the program in response to demands that specialists in Armenian history be included in the program. The absence of specialists in Armenian history may have allowed Azerbaijani participants to spread their lies about the history of the region unchallenged. The press office of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia is quoted by yerkir.am with this news.
“Aarhus University in Denmark had planned the conference. They had invited specialists from Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Dagestan, but none from Armenia; nor any specialists in Armenian history from other countries,” yerkir.am reports.
The organizers explain that the scope of the conference was limited to the area in which they are carrying out active archeological field work; however, they did not wish to allow the event to be read “through a political lens” in “the current circumstances.”
