Armenian audiences in Aleppo anticipate the concerts of the Hamazkayin “Zvartnots” Choice with enthusiasm every year. They look forward to the charms of four-part singing and hearing the soul-nourishing works of various songwriters.
Every year the group performs a new program, sometimes with surprises. This year’s wonderful surprise was that the group showcased a few young soloists. The director put great effort into preparing them to bring new color to Zvartnots.
The two performances, on April 18 and 19, took place under the aegis of the prelate of the Armenian Church in Syria, Archbishop Magar Ashkarian. The director was Kayane Simonian Derian. The choir was accompanied by Lizet Seraydarian on piano.
Arina Boshgezenian served as emcee, making opening remarks and introducing certain pieces.
