The new period of activity for Hamazkayin in Cyprus began in 1999, when a group of faithful Hamazkayin members established the Nicosia “Hagop Oshagan” Chapter.
Starting with some 20 members, the chapter quickly expanded its activities, growing its membership, establishing a dance ensemble, theater group, and organizing cultural evenings to revitalize love and interest toward Armenian culture. The current member count is 70.
In 2024, the Limassol “Taniel Varuzhan” Chapter started with 30 members. In the same year, Hamazkayin in Cyprus established its Dance Unit, which encompasses the Nicosia “Sipan,” the Paphos “Ani,” and the Limassol “Giligia” Dance Ensembles.
In January 2025, the organization held its first convention, with delegates from the two chapters and the Dance Unit. The convention elected the Isolated Regional Executive Board.
The Nicosia Chapter has, since 2000, included the “Timag” Theatrical Group, and since 2017, the “Hekiat” Youth Theater.
The two chapters organize cultural evenings to present to the public prominent Armenian artists and their work.
Hamazkayin Cyprus participates actively in local cultural life, especially through dance performance in the festivals and other events in various cities. In recent years, the Hamazkayin Cyprus dance ensemble has been invited to other countries, including Greece (Komotini), Bulgaria (Plovdiv), and Armenia (Yerevan, Gyumri), worthily representing Hamazkayin and Cypriot Armenians.
